Mr. Barber is a patent attorney registered to practice
before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and an attorney at law,
registered to practice in Colorado state. He also has substantial experience working
as a patent attorney in the national and international arena, teaching and administration
at the SolBridge International School of Business, the Center for Legal Studies and other places.
He consults for the Korean Institute for Nuclear Safety, the Korean government's nuclear regulatory arm.
From 2009 into 2011, Mr. Barber took a sabbatical from his law practice and began work as an
Associate Professor of Law at SolBridge International College of Business. In 2009 and 2010,
Mr. Barber temporarily served as Acting Associate Dean of the College. He also enjoys speaking engagements in various nations.
Mr. Barber earned a Bachelor of Science
in Aerospace Engineering, 1986, a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies, 1991,
and a Juris Doctorate, 1995, from the University of Colorado.
He served as a professional researcher for the Space and Flight Laboratory,
and as a programmer/analyst for KAMAN Science Corporation in support of
the NORAD Space Surveillance Center. A patent agent prior to graduation
from law school, he became a patent attorney at the time of his
admission to the Colorado Bar. As an attorney and patent attorney, he has
worked not only with US patent attorneys but also with leading Asian patent attorneys at
the WONJON International IP Law Firm.
Mr. Barber has also done legal writing and teaching for the Center
for Legal Studies, and teaching, administration and research at the SolBridge International School of Business.
He has spoken on various topics in China, the US and Korea. His consultation for the Korean government included assistance
with the 2011 IAEA inspection / visit to Korea.
His technical experience as an engineer and patent attorney spans diverse areas of technology: mechanical devices, software,
computers, storage devices, telecommunications, business methods, explosives,
chemistry, plumbing, rice cookers, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, semiconductors,
electronics, furniture, building materials, themodynamic devices and much more.
Clients of the firm are located in Colorado and around the world, and range in size from
individuals just starting their business to large corporations.
He is also co-author of various research papers in IP law and technology and co-author of a
textbook on ADR Law published in 1996 by the Center for Legal Studies.
