This is the area of patent law that embraces the traditional conception of
an invention. Machinery, however, includes a surprising number of subsets of its own -- a fact true in every
area of patent law, and one we harp on a good deal at this web site! Almost everything can be catagorized
as a mechanical device at one level or another.
Mechanical patent attorneys see a range of fascinating subject matter.
Just in the past few years, we've worked on patents involving snow-boarding simulators,
improved rice cooker seals, modular storage devices, pipe laying rams, several types of furniture,
water closets, building materials and many many more.
We've included as examples abstracts taken from patents previously granted. Some of these patents were close to history, some are unknown, a few were chosen whimsically. Note that these are not chosen for being patents done by Barber Legal, if for no other reason than the privacy concerns of our clients. We're not advertising here, nor promising that "we can get you a patent like this", nor are we trying to take credit for the work of other registered patent attorneys: we've even included the names of other firms in our excerpts, and we always urge potential clients to call around to compare our prices and those of other firms. What we are doing is giving you an idea of the sorts of things that have been done in the past by inventors and patent attorneys around the world.
Never overlook one wonderful fact about the patent attorney's art: the imagination and power of the human mind furnish our raw materials.
Abstract:
A mechanical robot having hydraulically operated arms, mandible claws, neck, head and jaw,
resembles a giant prehistoric reptile. It is driven from an on-board cockpit and is
capable of picking up an automobile and crushing it, then biting into it with large
teeth located within a powerful jaw. Various audible and visual effects are produced
during operation thereby generating a frightful spectacle for exhibition,
promotion and entertainment. The robot is capable of folding into a rigid
structure and being attached to a trailer tractor for road hauling on its own wheels.

Abstract:
A cutting apparatus for cutting using a pressurized jet of fluid from a high pressure
fluid source includes a hand-held tool, a hose for delivering pressurized fluid to the
hand-held tool from the high pressure fluid source, and a nozzle at a distal end of the
hand-held tool. The nozzle has a channel capped by a jewel. The jewel has a second
channel therethrough restricting the flow of fluid through the channel, thereby
creating the pressurized jet of fluid. A trigger switch is located on the hand-held tool.
The trigger switch activates the high pressure fluid source when depressed and
deactivates the high pressure fluid source when released.
